Where do you draw inspiration? I’m heavily influenced by travelling and modern art. Visiting the Tate Modern gallery, in London, a few years ago was mind-blowing. The use of shape and colour was extraordinary, and can be seen in my quilts over the last year.

Why this particular craft? Quilts are beautiful and usable. My house is covered in them – quilts on beds, quilts in piles, quilts on chairs, quilts on ladders – EVERYWHERE. What other creative crafty pursuit could you do that with? I also like the idea that these quilts I make are keeping people warm and will treasured and loved.

Is there room for your family with all those quilts? Our house is organised chaos. Apart from me and all my crafts, there is my very understanding and helpful husband, four children (two boys and two girls), a very naughty Dalmatian, fish and a yabbie. I love having a big family and keeping busy. Admittedly, sometimes, it gets a bit overwhelming, but it also keeps me focused and grounded.

Have you tried plenty of others? I started out in photography. I’ve tried collage – which is similar to quilting, really. I love to dabble in fabric design, but, again, I suppose that’s linked with quilting. Plus, one day, I’d love to try ceramics; that’s always looked like fun.
