Bright splashy print fabrics in shades of hot pink, red and oranges make this quilt positively sizzle. Designed by Jenny Tate, this quilt pattern features an appliqué design reminiscent of the classic oak and reel block – but updated and made modern for a contemporary quilt.

- Instructions are provided for fusible-web appliqué blanket stitched by machine, but they can be easily adapted to suit a variety of appliqué methods
- Use pre-cut fat quarters for the appliqué – or raid your stash
- It’s easy to change the colour palette: choose a border fabric, then pick colours from it to use for the appliqué and setting triangles
- Made it modern, by using more modern fabrics printed with large motifs for the border and setting triangles, and you can even use hand-dyes and batiks for the appliqué
- It’s easy to vary the size of the quilt: just use more or fewer blocks
