Sandra Paul

How would you describe your particular crochet style? Colourful is probably a good word for my style. I’m most often inspired by colours and beautiful combinations in both bright and softer shades. Then maybe pretty, feminine, floral, fun and hopefully happy.

Did your distinctive style happen over time or was it immediate when you started stitching? I wasn’t sure I had my own style for a long time, as I feel like I borrow from so many different influences, and there’s always something new turning my head. But I think that whatever my style is, it must have always been there waiting to come out.

Are you good at all the crafts you’ve tried? I’m a fairly practical person, so I can usually make a reasonable attempt at most creative things, especially if it’s yarn related. But cake decorating is my nemesis; I’m fairly awful at that!

What sorts of crafts do you avoid like the plague? Well, I’d like to avoid cake decorating, but with a child in the house, that’s practically impossible. I don’t think there’s anything else I’d actively avoid, though. But never say never!

Other than crafting, how do you like to spend your time? With my family mostly. We like to play games and go to the park, and my daughter loves to bake.  We recently got a dog, so I’m really enjoying going for walks with him and I love to unwind at night with a book.

Is your crochet a great diversion from tasks youd prefer to avoid (eg: housework)? Definitely. Crochet, knitting, sewing, spinning, anything other than housework - although I’m normally quite good and try to use crochet as my reward for getting the less-interesting things done.

If the good fairy granted you three wishes, what would you want them to be? Endless wealth and power! Just kidding. My wishes would be fairly modest, really. Just to be happy, stay healthy and the same for my family. Of course, if she could see her way clear to throwing in a modest Georgian-style house filled with charming original features, I wouldn’t say no!

Do you listen to music or watch TV while you crochet? Generally, I like to catch up with some TV or listen to an audio book while I crochet. I love Jeeves and Wooster, Agatha Christie and Jane Austen. I’m enjoying watching podcasts on You Tube more and more lately, though. Little Bobbins and Love.Sock.Wool are probably my favourites.
