Why this particular craft? I’ve been having a blast creating embroidery patterns of floral animals lately – and since I’m a bit of a crazy cat lady, it seemed like the perfect time to make a little floral cat. I usually make my embroideries into hoop art, but I loved the idea of doing a little cushion this time, with pretty florals and of course, pompom trim. I strongly feel all pillows should have pompom trims.

Have you tried plenty of others? I love most kinds of crafting – sewing, quilting, embroidery, jewellery-making. And I also like home DIY. I love trying new things, but sewing and embroidery are closest to my heart.

If you weren’t doing this, what would occupy your time? I’d still be crafting, but I'd just have to find some sort of job to support the habit. I do love reading, too – it's my other favourite thing to do.

Is it hard to find time to do you crafting or is it a profession? Being able to create for a living is pretty much a dream job for me. I never would have expected, growing up, that I’d be able to make a living designing patterns and creating craft tutorials. It’s time-consuming, but I love it so much that it hardly feels like work.

From where do you draw inspiration? I’m inspired by vintage designs and styles. My favourite thing is to take something old and give it new life - or create something new that is vintage-inspired.

What are your favourite materials to work with? Definitely fabric and embroidery threads. I'm happiest when I'm sitting and stitching a new design or quilt.

Do you ever see yourself stopping or diversifying? I don't ever see myself stopping, but I love trying new things. I've recently begun quilting, but I have quite a bit to learn about that. I'd love to put more time into learning more and becoming more precise.

Do you teach your skills to others? I love teaching projects online on my blog. I write up about one crafty tutorial a week, and I've been blogging for about six years. That's a lot of projects!

How would you describe your style? Colourful and vintage-inspired.

Where do you live and work? I live just outside of Nashville, Tennessee. We just moved to the country here about a year and a half ago and we love it. Our house is in the middle of 100 acres of farmland, and my sewing studio is in a sunroom on the back of house, looking out at the fields.

What is your advice for beginners? Just dive in and don't be afraid. Crafting, especially embroidery, is such a fun and relaxing hobby. You can do beautiful projects with even the most basic of stitches.
