Hitomi Fujita designed this quilt using Quilt Gate's Mary Rose Collection - Angels range of fabrics. It is a very traditional block that lends itself to motif fabrics for the block centres and uses applique and sashiko stitching.

  • Full materials list included in instructions
  • Detailed step-by-step instructions, colour photographs and clear diagrams take you through the each step of this quilt pattern.
  • Pattern sheet is included with templates for the curved block pieces, ready for tracing.
  • Take inspiration from Hitomi's colour scheme as she has made another sample in traditional Japanese fabrics to illustrate how you can get a totally different look with a different fabric.
  • Depending on the print of the fabrics chosen, quantities required for fussy cutting will vary. The quantity of fabric required for the border and the sashing also depends on the pattern repeat of the print.
  • Applique around the edges of the curved shapes with a small blind stitch.
  • Quilt as desired. Hitomi machine quilted her quilt and added Sashiko stitching at the corners of the blocks. She quilted curved lines around the centre squares of the blocks and quilted in the ditch around the curved applique pieces
  • This project is recommended for beginner crafter who want to extend their quilting skills.
